William H. "Suds" Suddoth

January 7, 1930 — January 17, 2026

Greenville, PA

William H. “Suds” Suddoth, 96, of Greenville, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Saturday morning Jan 17, 2026, at home in the loving care of his daughters and sister.

He was born on January 7, 1930 in Wellsburg WV, son to the late Richard Thomas Suddoth and Sarah Alice (May) Suddoth. Bill served in the army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. (Nov 1951 – Oct 1953) He was awarded the occupation medal, National Defense Service medal, & Good Conduct medal.

He married Betty Lou May of Kittanning, PA on December 28, 1951, and upon his honorable discharge from the service, they moved to Greenville PA. Bill worked at the Record-Argus Newspaper as a typesetter for many years before being hired at the Youngstown Vindicator in Youngstown, OH. He retired from the Vindicator as a member of the Printers Guild. Bill and Betty had nearly 65 years together before she passed away November 26, 2016.

He loved to fish (a hobby he enjoyed with his father, and then with his own sons), play guitar, work crossword puzzles, and feed the wildlife in his yard. The birds got breakfast before Bill did every day. Mostly though, he loved to golf and joined a league at Pine Hill golf course. Bill competed in the senior golf games until the age of 89 winning four gold, three silver, and a bronze medal. He continued golfing until the age of 93 but had to give it up when he lost his sight.

Bill’s competitive edge, quick wit, and sense of humor were with him to his last day. He taught his children the simple things in life were the most valuable. Bill demonstrated how to live a full life with only gratitude and no regrets and how to love & care for family with complete devotion.

He is survived by three daughters: Casandra (John) Boliver, Pamela (Donald) Rodawalt, and Susan Smith - all of Greenville; two sons, William L. (Mary Liz) Suddoth of Greenville and Gregg T. Suddoth; a sister, Nancy Wolcott of Harborcreek, PA; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters: Mary Frances Ryan, Betty Kins, Alice Yoltz, Grace McAlpine, Martha Markosky, and Ethel Chivers; and two brothers, Tom Suddoth and John Suddoth.

Bill’s family wishes to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care of Bill and the family during his illness.
