William I. Kaufman, age 81, of Woodbine Dr. Hempfield Twp. Greenville, passed away Monday morning January 23, 2023. He was born in Greenville on September 19, 1941 to Harold and Ethel (Putnam) Kaufman. Bill was a graduate of Fredonia High School and began working at the age of sixteen at the former D’Alfonso’s Grocery Store. He purchased their W. Main St. location in in 1967 and along with his younger brother Dick, they operated Kaufman’s Fine Foods, with two locations in Greenville and one location in Meadville. In addition, the brothers also owned and operated the Greenville Dinor and Alley Cat. Bill continued in the Grocery industry working in the produce department of the former Bilo’s and Walmart, where he retired from.

He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he had served on church council. Bill was a member, past King Lion and Board Member of the Greenville Lions Club. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. Bill and his wife, the former Judith A. Fleming, who he married on December 28, 1968 loved to travel together and had visited all 50 states. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister; Sandra Dunham and her husband Bob of York, PA, a brother-in-law; William Fleming of Philadelphia, PA, a sister-in-law; Joyce Kaufman of Nashville, TN and three nephews; Jason Kaufman, Jarrod Kaufman, both of Nashville, TN and Bradley Dunham of York, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard Kaufman.

Memorial contributions may be made to the organ fund of St. John’s Lutheran Church 10 Beil Hill Rd. Greenville, PA 16125.
