William G. Brecht, age 96, of W. Salem Twp., Greenville, passed away Friday morning, September 11, 2026, in Avalon Springs Care Center, Mercer.
He was born in Girard, OH on August 9, 1930 to George L. and Florence (Haupt) Brecht and moved to West Salem Township in 1932. Bill attended a one-room school house and graduated from Penn High School. He served overseas in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, Bill took many courses at Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He retired from the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad following 30 years of employment.
An avid bicyclist, he was a lifetime member of The League of American Bicyclists and a member of American Legion Post #140. Bill enjoyed outdoor activities and helping his many wonderful friends and neighbors who made his life so grand.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frances H. Harding.
Services:
Per Bill’s wishes, Cremation was chosen, and no services will be held. Inurnment will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Mercer County, PO Box 1046, Hermitage, PA 16148.
