Vera Eulalie Stephens Jones of 113 Northampton Dr. Canton, GA, formerly of East Lake Rd. Jamestown, PA, died peacefully in her sleep on January 22, 2026 at the age of 100. She was born on February 26, 1925 in Hartstown, PA, to Solomon Roy Stevens and Carrie Blanche Lanham Stephens. She married Clifford V. Jones on March 20, 1944 at the Sarah Hearn Presbyterian Church in Erie, PA, while he was serving as a Lieutenant JG in the United States Navy during World War II. He died December 17, 1997.

An alumnus with Salutatorian Honors of the former Pymatuning Joint High School, Jamestown, PA, Mrs. Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Education degree from the University of Massachusetts, both summa cum laude, and completed her graduate study for the Elementary Principal’s Certificate at Westminster College, PA.

Mrs. Jones was an elementary school teacher in several schools including Granby Public Schools, Granby Massachusetts; North Allegheny School District, Pittsburgh, PA; Butler Area School District, Butler, PA; and she served as the Elementary Principal at Butler’s Lyndora School, Northwest School, and Emily Brittain School, from which she retired in 1990.

Prior to her career in education and moving with her husband as his career developed, Mrs. Jones was a Secretary in the Sales Office of Copperweld Steel Co., Warren, OH; an Accounts Receivable Bookkeeper/Credit Manager for the Medical Security Clinic, Seattle, WA (a clinic of 24 doctors in a prepaid practice and forerunner of the present Blue Cross/Blue Sheild HMO); a CAF4 Secretary for the U.S. Navy Base, Pleasanton, CA; Executive Secretary to the General Manager of the Division Office of Gulf Oil Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA; and an editor/stenographer of Doctoral Theses at Columbia University, NYC.

When her children were young, she served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Sunday School teacher, and Circle Leader in her church. Later, she was an active member of Westford United Methodist Church where she served many offices including Lay Leader, Council Chair, Trustee, and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was active in Century Chapter No. 100, Order of the Eastern Star, serving in many offices including Worthy Matron and District Deputy Grand Matron, and she earned her 50 year and life member status in the Pymatuning chapter. Mrs. Jones was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Jamestown Historical Society, the Ogles Association of America and England, and she was an associate member of the Jamestown study class. She was elected to Kappa Delta Pi (National Professional Association and Honors Society for Educators) and is listed in Who's Who in Education.

In 2007, Mrs. Jones earned the distinction of being named “Woman of the Year” by the Pymatuning Council of Republican Women and was awarded citations from the Senate and the House of Representatives of the state of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Jones loved her husband and children and watched them all succeed as positive contributors to this wonderful country. She was a loving grandmother and great grandmother. She treasured good writing and literature. Throughout her marriage of 53 years, she and Dr. Jones shared a love of reading, history, travel, bridge games, and a passion for education and genealogical research. Mrs. Jones spent about 50 years searching genealogical records and traveled twice to England, Scotland, and Ireland to discover and document her ancestry, and had traced her direct line ancestors (grandmothers and grandfathers) to the kings and queens of England all the way back to the Norman conquest. At the time of her death, she was researching her Scottish and Viking roots.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Lee Jones Saben, of Canton, GA, and two sons, Douglas Roy Jones and his wife Mary Kathryn of Georgetown, MA, and Gregory C. Jones, M.D. and his wife Mary Lynn Stockdale, of Owingsville, KY. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Geoffrey Deemer and wife Christina Deemer, Dr. Elizabeth O’Keeffe and husband Lt. Col (Ret) Shan P. O’Keeffe, Matthew Jones and wife Erin Jones, Kathryn Robinson and husband Joseph Robinson, Christopher Jones, Bethany Jones, and Warren Jones.

In addition to her parents and two brothers; Arthur G. Stephens and Floyd B. Stephens and wife Cora Stephens, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband and one son, C. Barton Jones Esq., daughter-in-law Cynthia Jones, and son-in-law Robert W Saben Jr.

Mrs. Jones touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, kindness, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and strength that lives on in all of us.
