Thomas A. Thurber

Thomas A. Thurber, age 82, of Chestnut St., Jamestown, passed away Tuesday evening, August 4, 2026, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless

He was born in Jamestown on October 11, 1943 to George W. and Winifred M. (Kohler) Thurber. Tom graduated from Jamestown High School in 1962. He retired as the owner/operator of Thurber Wells and Pumps, Jamestown and previously had been employed by Lininger Well Drilling, Greenville for 40 years.

Tom was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Hartstown Pump House #45 and a past member of the Jamestown Fireman’s Club. Tom previously served as Jamestown Cub Scout Master and Scout Master. During the 1980s, he served on the Jamestown Borough Council. Tom enjoyed camping and hunting and loved spending time with his family.

On September 29, 1961, he married the former Kay L. Rhoades; she survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Karen (Jon) Wright of Floral City, FL; a son, Jeff Thurber of Jamestown; a brother, Si (Rosemarie) Thurber of Greenville; seven grandchildren: Christina Thurber, Alex (Samantha) Thurber, Rebecca (Jacob) Baker, Benjamin (Maddy) Wright, Greg Wright, Gabby (Erin) Fenske, Julia (Dalton) Dawson; and six great-grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Polina Wright; an infant sister, Mary Ellen Thurber; a sister, Jeannie Hunt; three brothers: Gordon, George, and Merle Thurber; and a daughter-in-law, Amy Thurber.

Services:

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, 8/8/26, in Loutzenhiser-Randall Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 416 Liberty St. Jamestown. Family and friends will be received in the Funeral Home on 8/8/26 from 10:00 AM until time of Service. Inurnment will be in Espyville Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Jamestown United Methodist Church, 407 Depot St, Jamestown, PA 16134.
