Shirley Kepple Hildebrand, 91, of Greenville, Pa., died on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at St. Paul Homes in Greenville.
Ms. Hildebrand was born May 28, 1934, in Chicora, Pa., a daughter of Alfred H. and Elizabeth R. (Elrick) Kepple. She was a 1952 graduate of Chicora High School and studied at Gettysburg (Pa.) College, later earning a degree in social work from Slippery Rock University in 1980.
Shirley retired from St. Paul Homes in 1998 after 17 years as Director of Social Services. Previously she worked for the Mercer County Area Agency on Aging, operated the Christmas shop at Gosser’s Gift and Office Supply, worked for former state Rep. Roy Wilt, and was a proofreader for printers in Cincinnati.
She belonged to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenville, where she was a member of the prayer circle and evangelism committee. She also taught Sunday school at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Greenville.
Shirley was a lifelong volunteer and active in the community. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women, the Northwest Democratic Alliance, director of Greenville Area Preservation Association, and served on the board of directors of the Good Shepherd Center, where she was an active volunteer for many years.
She loved to travel and toured Great Britian, Germany, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, and many destinations in the United States over her lifetime.
She is survived by three sons: Theodore R. (Vicki) Hildebrand Jr. of Greenville, Eric C. (Elizabeth) Hildebrand of Portland, Ore., and Nicholas A. (Betsy) Hildebrand of Greenville; three grandchildren: Grace, Ella and Maxwell Hildebrand; and a great-granddaughter Lily Limle.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Kepple.
Services:
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, 1/31/26, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville, with Rev. Brenda Martin, Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenville, officiating. Family and friends will be received in the Funeral Home on Saturday, 1/31/26, from 1:30 PM until time of service. Inurnment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Chicora, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or organizations Shirley supported, including the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and PBS.
