SaraRose “Rosebud” DiMaria, age 33, of the Besse Benner-Metzenbaum Center, Chesterland, OH and formerly of Chardon, OH, passed away peacefully in her mother’s arms on Tuesday morning, October 14, 2025.
After ten years of hope and prayer, SaraRose was born on January 9, 1992 —beautiful, bright, and full of grace. At six months old, she was diagnosed with Pallister Killian Mosaic Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that shaped her life but never defined her spirit.
From the start, she taught everyone what pure love truly means. She found joy in the simplest things—wind rushing through an open car window, tearing up magazines (which gave her the ultimate joy), a McDonald’s milkshake, her beloved Ho-Ho’s, and laughter that filled every room. To her mother, she was Rosebud; to her father, Pookie; and to her brother, always Sissy.
Everyone who met SaraRose was immediately drawn to her gentle spirit. She had a special way of reaching out — she would take your hand and place it on her head, inviting you to give her the head rubs she so loved. It was her way of saying, “I trust you, I love you.” Those who shared that moment with her were forever changed by it.
She began her lifelong connection with the Metzenbaum Center in Chesterland, Ohio, as a baby and later made it her home at 22. The staff and residents became a second family to her.
A heartfelt thank you to Shae Plat, who cared for SaraRose in her mother’s home with the devotion of a second mother and gave her comfort, laughter, and love in countless ways.
SaraRose is survived by her loving parents Kathleen Holian and Vince DiMaria, her cherished brother Thomas DiMaria, and her extended family: her only nephew, Elliott Krieger; Mark and Judy Holian; Mary Lou and Denis Steed; Sean and Julie Holian; Brian and Kathy Holian; Kelley and Ky Ryder; Janice and Steve Macklemore; and many cousins, friends, and caregivers whose lives she forever changed.
Her mother writes, “When SaraRose looked at me, I felt as if I were looking into the eyes of God.” Her spirit was pure, her joy infectious, her love boundless.
“You survive a shattered heart by letting love do what it does best — it doesn’t leave; it transforms. Rosebud’s love is still wrapped all around you, and you are still safe in my arms — now and for eternity.”
