Ronald G. “Coop” Cooper, age 83 of Greenville passed away peacefully at home on February 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Greenville on July 19, 1942, to Roy and Catherine Cooper. A 1961 graduate of Greenville High School, Coop was a member of Zion’s Reformed Church.
While in high school, Coop earned his Eagle Scout Badge and served as Master Counselor of the Greenville Chapter of DeMolay.
After high school, Coop worked as an electrician apprentice at the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad until he was drafted into the US Army. He served as a missile instructor at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Upon returning to Greenville, he became a lineman at Penn Power, Clark, Pennsylvania. His career there lasted 35 years, retiring as a trouble shooter.
On June 10, 1967, Coop married his high school best friend, Linda Gilson. He was blessed with a wonderful family with whom he loved to travel. He spent time with them on cruises as well as beaches in the South. His favorite time with family was watching his grandchildren participate in sports.
Coop was always working two or three jobs. In 1967, he became a part time driver for Anderson Bus Company. During that time, he was the team driver for the Thiel Tomkitten basketball team which was coached by his wife. He retired from bus driving in 2012.
One of his greatest accomplishments came in 1984, when he and his wife founded the Greenville School of Gymnastics. For the next 20 years, Coop coached gymnasts and attended many gymnastic competitions.
Coop’s love of the outdoors included golfing, skiing, hunting, fishing and horseback riding. He enjoyed playing golf with his son, son-in-law and grandson. He took many trips hunting with his friends.
Volunteer work was an important part of Coop’s life. As a cancer survivor, he was an active member of the Roadrunner Relay For Life Team for 17 years. He spent many hours as a member of the Restore Riverside Park Committee working to revamp the amphitheater. He was an active member of the Greenville Lion’s Club and served one year as King Lion. Coop also was a 50-year member of F & AM Eureka Lodge #290 and a member of the Scottish Rite New Castle Consistory. Additionally, he was a past member of AMVETS, Jamestown.
Coop is survived by his wife, Linda Cooper, at home, his daughter Mindi (Dave) Wiezchowski of Erie, his son, TJ Cooper (Katherine),] of Sag Harbor, NY, and three grandchildren, Cooper and Savannah Wiezchowski and Theodora Cooper, a brother, Terry Cooper (Carol) of Greenville, and sister-in-law, Nancy Leyerzoff of Lawrence, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services:
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, 2/14/26, in the David Johnson Memorial Chapel of Thiel College, 94 College Ave, Greenville with Chaplain Joe Frank of Gentiva Hospice officiating. Jamestown Honor Guard will render Military Honors at the conclusion of the Service. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, 2/13/26, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville. F & AM Eureka Lodge #290 will conduct a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM Friday, 2/13/26, in the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Restore Riverside Park c/o Northern Mercer County Community Foundation, 7 W. State St. Sharon, PA 16146, Thiel College Women’s Basketball, 75 College Ave. Greenville, PA 16125, or Thiel College Men’s Golf.
