Robert M. Burke

October 21, 1937 — July 12, 2025

Butler, PA

Robert Burke, a devoted husband, decorated Air Force veteran, accomplished graphic designer, and passionate fisherman, passed away suddenly at the age of 87. Born on October 21, 1937, in Franklin, Pennsylvania, Robert was the beloved son of John James Burke and Kathleen Unterreiner, and was raised with love by Ethel Soult Burke (Stepmother) and John Burke. His early years instilled in him a deep sense of integrity, creativity, and quiet resilience that would shape every chapter of his life.

At just 18, Robert answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force in 1955. For four years, he worked as an air traffic controller, contributing to national defense during a critical era. After his honorable service, he pursued his artistic talents, graduating from the Art Institute in 1961 with a degree in graphic design. From there, he launched a distinguished 41-year career in the arts, rising to the position of Executive Art Director. Known to many as “the man with the magic marker,” Robert’s creative vision and steady hand helped shape countless campaigns and projects over the decades.

He found joy and peace in nature, especially while fishing the lakes and rivers of Pennsylvania. He had a deep love of the outdoors and spent countless hours in quiet reflection surrounded by the woods, water, and wildlife he cherished. An avid angler and fly-tier, he took pride in crafting his own flies, each one a small work of art. In 1985, he was the Rapala Winner at Sandy Lake for reeling in a memorable largemouth bass—an achievement he treasured. Another of Robert’s lifelong passions was building highly detailed model German warplanes, lovingly replicating each one down to the paint job. His favorite was the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, a symbol of the precision and dedication he brought to all his hobbies.

Above all, Robert was a loving and devoted husband to Carol Ann (Curcio) Dewey, his wife of 44 years. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with laughter, shared adventures, and unwavering support.

Robert will be remembered for his quiet strength, his creative spirit, and the depth of his love—for his family, for his country, and for the natural world around him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, artistry, and craftsmanship that will be cherished by all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed, but his memory lives on in every cast of a fishing line, every stroke of a brush, and every peaceful walk beneath the trees.
