Robert E. Brest, age 89, of Hempfield Ave., Hempfield Twp., Greenville, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 10, 2026, in his residence.
He was born in Greenville on October 3, 1936 to Robert L. and Eleanor R. (McClelland) Brest. Bob graduated from Penn High School in 1954 and served in the U. S. Army Reserve from 1959 – 1965. He retired from Preston Trucking following 15 years as a semi-truck driver and previously had been employed at Anderson Coach & Travel as a motor coach operator for nine years and as a crane operator at the former Chicago Bridge & Iron for 17 years.
Bob attended the North Salem Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, yard work, taking care of the house, and spending time with his family. In his younger years, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising beef on his small farm. Bob was known for his love for the Lord, his wife, children, and grandchildren.
On January 19, 1963, he married the former Gertrude M. Mitchell; she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jodi M. (Evan) Hereford of Greenville and Michelle L. Lancaster and her fiancé Shawn Simao of St. Augustine, FL; a sister, Gail (John) Carey of Sheakleyville; a brother, Rodney Brest of Meadville; a sister-in-law, Rose Brest of Greenville; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Brest; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Brest.
Gertrude wishes to thank her children, the caring staff of Medi Hospice, and Rev. Michael and Wanda Marshall for their loving support during Bob’s illness.
Services:
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, 1/16/26, in North Salem Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church, 190 Osborn Rd. Greenville, with Rev. Michael Marshall, Pastor of the Church, officiating. Family and friends will be received in the Church on 1/16/26 from 9:30 AM until time of service. Burial with Committal Prayers will be in Stevenson Cemetery.
