Richard P. “Dick” Meeker, age 90, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025, in The Ridgewood at St. Paul’s Senior Living Community.
He was born in Greenville on March 6, 1935 to Albert E. Meeker, Sr. and Josephine (Bubeck) Meeker. Dick was a 1953 graduate of Penn High School and subsequently was employed by the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad for 10 years. He then graduated from Thiel College in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and taught for one year in the Greenville Area School District. Dick then went to the Mt. Lebanon School District where he was a sixth-grade teacher until retiring in 1993. During the 1960s and early 1970s, he also was employed as co-manager and swimming instructor at the Greenville Memorial Pool. After retirement, Dick worked as an antique dealer and appraiser at Wagon Wheel Antique Shop in Gibsonia.
Dick was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenville. He served on the board of the Greenville Area Historical Society and actively volunteered at St. Paul’s Senior Living Community, The Good Shepherd Center Food Pantry; and the Greenville Senior Center. Dick was an avid supporter of Pittsburgh sports teams.
He is survived by a sister, Marie Riley of Greenville; a brother, Lewis Meeker of Kent, OH; and nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Albert, Charles, John, William, Thomas, and Lawrence Meeker and two sisters, Mary Lucaric and Margaret Swinson.
Services:
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, 8/9/25, in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenville with Rev. Brenda Martin, Pastor of the Church, officiating. Family and friends will be received in the Hospitality Room of the Church on 8/9/25 from 9:45 – 10:45 AM. Memorial Contributions may be made to Greenville Area Historical Society 23 W. Main St. Greenville, PA 16125; Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 Trinity Pl. Greenville, PA 16125; or St. Paul’s Senior Living Community, 339 E. Jamestown Rd. Greenville, PA 16125.
