Raymond J. Peterson, age 81, of Mercer passed away Thursday morning, December 18, 2025.

He was born in Greenville on February 10, 1944 to Raymond E. and Sara L. (Marsteller) Peterson. Ray was a 1963 graduate of Reynolds High School. He served in the U. S. Navy on board the USS Independence from 1964 – 1968 and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. Ray later completed his education as an automotive mechanic at New Castle School of Trades. He retired from VEC Technologies following 13 years as mix plant operator and previously had been employed at Greenville Steel Car.

He was a member of Greenville VFW Post #3374 where he was a past member of the Honor Guard and a former Post Chaplain. Ray enjoyed fishing and gardening.

On September 4, 1964, he married the former Charlotte R. McCartney; she passed away November 26, 2007. Ray then married the former Lynette A. (Eckstein) Croskey on October 19, 2013; she survives.

In addition to his second wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susan (Peter) Marthaler of Charleston, SC; a stepdaughter, Marsha (Weston) Kincade of Cleveland, OH; a brother, Alan (Darlene) Peterson of Weeki Wachee, FL; and two grandchildren, Hailey (Michael) Piscatelli of Charleston, SC and Justin Marthaler of Minneapolis, MN.

In addition to his first wife, Ray was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nancy Gelvin; and a brother, Paul Peterson.

Services:

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, 12/26/25 in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville with Chaplain Don Gales of Greenville VFW Post #3374 officiating. Military Honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the service by Greenville VFW Post #3374 Honor Guard. Family and friends will be received in the Funeral Home on 12/26/25 from 10:00 AM until time of service. Inurnment will be in Rocky Glen Cemetery, Adamsville. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Greenville VFW Post #3374 Honor Guard, 54 Conneaut Lake Rd. Greenville, PA 16125.
