Randolph Patrick Mutdosch, 79, of Greenville, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 10, 2026.
He was born January 27, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Victor Lawrence Mutdosch and Rhea Patricia Charlton.
Randy proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War from August 1966 to August 1968.
On August 23, 1969, he married Nancy Lucile Stuver. Together they built a life centered around family and laughter.
Randy worked for many years on the Bessemer Railroad before continuing his career at Werner Co., where he retired. He also served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed playing softball for many years on several local teams and was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He tried to never miss his weekly, long-running cornhole games with his longtime friends Ron and Bob Callahan, Harry Davis, Dan Mowry, and Paul Smith.
Known by many in the West Salem area as the “Green Man,” Randy wore his high-visibility clothing while on his daily 3-mile walk, starting at 7 a.m. every single day. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow would keep him from this routine. During these walks, he formed deep, enduring relationships with many neighbors, performing various tasks on their “Randy To-Do Lists” along the way.
After retirement, Randy preferred spending time at home surrounded by family. He lovingly ran what the family called “Grampy’s Daycare,” caring for his school-aged grandchildren, complete with “homework” for all the kids on the school van and field trips. He loved working outdoors, sitting on his swing, relaxing by the fire pit, and tackling projects with his son-in-law Jim, who lives next door. He also loved wild birds and tending to his many bird feeders, routinely filling dozens while awaiting the arrival of his beloved orioles and hummingbirds. He enjoyed driving around his property on his golf cart with his wife or grandchildren, checking out the birds, flowers, trees, or just seeing what the rest of the family was up to “on the estate.”
Randy loved his country and was a proud veteran. He displayed that pride at home with a large flagpole, raising and lowering the flag with care and respect every day.
Randy is survived by his wife, Nancy; three children, sons James of Greenville, Pennsylvania, and Thomas (Tanya) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and daughter Cindy (Jim) Tupper of Greenville. He was a proud grandfather to Dakotah Mutdosch, Sophia Tupper, Ross Tupper, Victoria Mutdosch, and Zachary Mutdosch, and a great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Timothy (Carol) Heart, Deborah (Bill) Snyder, and David (Laurie) Mutdosch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gary Mutdosch, and his sister, Kathy Dale.
Randy will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country and community, and the many special moments spent with those he loved most.
