Opal Pollock Bass Wright

Opal Pollock Bass Wright, age 90, of The Colony at St. Paul’s and formerly of Sharon, passed away Thursday morning, July 23, 2026.

Opal was the second eldest of eight children. She grew up in Pelham GA and graduated from Pelham HS. After marrying her first husband, Herbert Bass, they moved to Atlanta where she had two children; Casey Bass (Mary Ann) and Jennifer Bass Levitt (Chris). During this time in Atlanta, she became an administrative assistant to the director of the CDC. This was a position of which she talked fondly about over the years.

In 1967, the family relocated to New Orleans, where Opal worked as a secretary for the Public Health Service. After the dissolution of her first marriage, she met her second husband, David L. Wright, M.D., Ph.D. They moved to Franklin, PA, and married in December of 1976. Now a stepmother [Bradley, Robert (Beverly), and Jennifer Louise Wright Hale (Richard)], she became the office manager for David’s pediatric practice.

In 1993, Opal and David relocated to Atlanta, GA, where Opal became a Master Gardner. She was recognized for her horticultural efforts by winning “yard of the month” during the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic games. A member of the Dunwoody Garden Club, she also volunteered at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and the Clark Howard radio show answering listener submitted gardening and investment questions.

Upon David’s retirement, the two relocated to Pelham, GA. Not long after, they purchased a second home in Sharon, PA, and spent the next 20 years commuting between the two. In Pelham, Opal worked with local corrections officials to train prison trustees on how to properly prune shrubs, trees and ornamental plants. In Sharon, Opal’s interest in painting peaked and she was active in local painting groups. In December of 2023, the couple retired to the St. Paul’s Senior Living Community, in Greenville, PA. Opal is survived by her husband, three sisters, two children, two stepchildren, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation can be made to Buhl Park where she spent many hours enjoying or St. Paul’s Senior Living Community, a place Opal found so helpful and comforting during her most senior years.

Per Opal’s wishes, Cremation was chosen, and all services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
