Michael L. Sweeney

Michael L. Sweeney, age 68, of Greenville passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 2025, in UPMC Hamot.

He was born in Greenville on July 23, 1957 to Michael J. “Jack” and Constance M. (Bonner) Sweeney. Mike attended St. Michael Schools and graduated from Greenville High School in 1975. Over the past 20 years, he was employed as a machinist at Hodge Foundry and previously had been employed as a machinist at Trinity Industries for over 20 years.

Mike was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church. He also was a member of Greenville Family Moose #276, The Italian Home Club, FOE #805, and served as President of the Greenville VFW Post #3374 Auxiliary. Mike was a member of the football game “chain gang” at Greenville High School for 40 years and at Thiel College for 37 years. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Buffalo Bills, and Notre Dame. Mike had a true passion for baseball and Rock n’ Roll.

He is survived by a sister, Peggy Sweeney of Greenville; three brothers: David B. Sweeney of Plano, TX, Patrick R. Sweeney of Greenville, and Robert J. Sweeney of Mercer.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Julie A. (Rice) Sweeney, and his parents.

Services:

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, 8/12/25, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church 85 N. High St. Greenville with Fr. Raymond Gramata as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, 8/11/25, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville. Greenville Family Moose #276 will conduct a Remembrance Service at the conclusion of the Visitation. Inurnment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Greenville High School Football, 9 Donation Rd. Greenville, PA 16125 or Thiel College Football 75 College Ave. Greenville, PA 16125.
