Mary Ann Louise Marshall, better known as “Baba,” peacefully passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by her family and friends at her beloved home in Greenville, Pennsylvania. Our Baba waited until July 17th to be with the Lord due to the fact her husband Cyril’s birthday was on this date. She wanted to give him a great surprise birthday party.
Mary Ann was the daughter of Evon John Godinich and Mary Rose Golob. Mary Ann was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio where she attended St. Vitus Church and School. Her mother was born and raised in Cleveland and her father was born and raised in Greenville. They met through an aunt who was working in Cleveland. Mary Ann’s mother was a widow and had a son Joseph who preceded Mary Ann in death. Mary Ann lived in Cleveland until 1947 until they moved to Greenville where the family purchased a farm. She had two siblings, Theresa Kamerer (husband Bud Kamerer-deceased) and John Godinich (deceased) with wife Irene. Mary Ann attended St Michaels School and Church. Mary Ann went back to Ohio in the early years of elementary school to continue her Catholic education where she made her First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Mary Ann attended Penn High School from the 7th grade to graduation in 1955. She was a majorette in the band. Mary Ann loved sports where she played basketball for the Rec Center (now the Senior Center). She played softball under coach Tate and Zimmerman. She played on the first girls softball team to play for the Rec Center and the first travelling girls softball team. There is photo of the team hanging now the Senior Center.
Mary Ann married Cyril Francis Marshall on June 29, 1957, at St. Michaels Church, which was officiated by her brother-in-law, Rev. John Marshall, O.F.M. who taught at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York. Cyril and Mary Ann were married for 60 years.
Cyril and Mary Ann had three children, a son John Francis Marshall and wife, Kimberly. Son John has four children, a daughter Ashley and husband Gotti Barrett with great granddaughter Amelia Barrett; A son John Francis Marrshall II and wife Stevi with two great grandsons, John Francis Marshall III and Elliot Marshall. A son Luke with Wife Brittni with a great grandson, Theodore David Marshall. A son, Brent Coughenour and fiancé, Angie.
Cyril and Mary Ann had a son Michael Damien Marshall and wife Julie. Michael has three children also: a son Adam with wife Lauren and a great grandson Oliver and a great granddaughter, Stella. A son named Cody with wife Caitlyn with two great grandsons, Cyril and Sonny and a great granddaughter, Frankie. Michael also had a daughter (Baba’s painting partner) Morgan Marshall who is a teaching Professor at Myrtle Beach USC.
Cyril and Mary Ann had a daughter, Julianne “Gigi” Marshall-Weaver who passed away February 10, 2017, leaving behind two children whom Mary Ann helped raise. A daughter, Danielle with husband Sergeant First Class Steven Mortimer of the United States Army stationed at Fort Bragg. Danielle and Steven have a son named Hunter, another great grandson loved by Mary Ann. Gigi also had a Son, Michael John Weaver of Greenville who was at Baba’s beck and call, day or night.
After having children, Mary Ann went on to beauty school and eventually opened her first Salon on Mercer Street and then eventually moving the salon to First Ave in Greenville, Pa., known as Marshall's Style Salon. Mary Ann was in the beauty business for over 40 years. Mary Ann loved making men, women and children look their best. Maryann was involved in the Special Olympics for several years. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, and she worked for the Look Good Feel Better program. Mary Ann loved helping all the ladies that were diagnosed with cancer to feel their best. MaryAnn was a VFW auxiliary member and a member of the Red Hats Society. Mary Ann also had a panting class in her residence on Tuesday where they would paint and drink wine acting like schoolgirls.
Mary Ann’s greatest passion was the Greenville Heritage Days, singing in the Greenville Revival Shows and the famous USO shows. The USO show was her prized passion where she would not only find singing and dancing acts, but she would also sing and dance herself. Mary Ann being selected as Timeless Tribute was a great honor to her.
Mary Ann had two loves of her life, Cyril Marshall and Jesus Christ. Mary Ann was involved in many activities at St. Michael’s Church. She sang in the Resurrection Choir and oversaw the church lecturers. Mary Ann became a secular Franciscan and was involved in the RCIA. She volunteered her time at the Good Shepard center and food pantry always wanting to help people in need. She also helped at the Senior Center with exercise classes.
Mary Ann’s greatest accomplishment was her name, Baba. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren more than anything. She was loved by all who met her. Basically, she was Baba to everyone. Baba always had a kind word and delicious food for all. She was the greatest cook and the one item that was requested the most from all was her palacinka, a thin crepe-like pancake. Mary Ann was a phenom in life and will be an angel in heaven. We love you, Baba.
Services:
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, 7/24/26, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas N. Trocchio, Pastor of the Church, as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, 7/23/26, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville. Inurnment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 85 N. High St. Greenville, PA 16125.
