Laverna M. Burt

Laverna M. Burt, age 86, of Greenville, passed unexpectedly away Sunday morning, June 7, 2026, in her residence.

She was born in McKees Rocks, PA on December 19, 1939 to Michael and Elizabeth (Kitchen) Suich. Vernie was employed in the grocery industry for over 40 years, and had worked at D’Onofrio’s Grocery Store and the former A & P Grocery.

She was a member of Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville for more than 60 years. Vernie enjoyed spending time at her winter home in Sarasota, FL, planting flowers, mowing, and baking and cooking special goodies for her grandkids. Vernie also loved her “fur babies” including cats and dogs, especially “Oliver.”

On October 16, 1981, she married John J. Burt; he survives.

In addition to her husband, Vernie also is survived by a daughter, Nancy E. Palmer of Greenville; two stepdaughters, Jodie (Jeff) Lawman of Bradenton, FL and Paula (Joe) Banco of Mercer; a daughter-in-law, Joni Diehl of Greenville; seven grandchildren: Brian Palmer, Alexander Palmer, Colin Banco, Kaylee Banco, Brittaney Yandell, Jared Costello, and Tyler Costello; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jerry M. Diehl; a stepdaughter, Sherry L. Costello; a grandson, Michael T. Diehl; and two brothers, Michael J. Suich and Richard L. Suich.

Services:

A Private Memorial Service will be held in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville, with Rev. Dr. Sean Hall, Pastor of Hillside Presbyterian Church, officiating. Inurnment will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hillside Presbyterian Church, 2 N. High St. Greenville, PA 16125.
