Judith D. "Judy" Kougher

Judith D. “Judy” Kougher, age 74, of Gibson Rd., Hempfield Twp., Greenville passed away Wednesday morning, September 10, 2025, in Greystone Country Estates.

She was born in Greenville on January 11, 1951 to Blair and Lucille (Shreffler) Cook and was a 1968 graduate of Greenville High School. Judy earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education at Edinboro University. Judy taught fifth grade and toward the end of her career was part of the Instructional Support Team at Lakeview Area School District, retiring in 2007 following more than 30 years of employment.

While in high school, Judy participated in cheerleading, dancing, and classical ballet (including Cecchetti) and danced en Pointe (toe shoes). In more recent years, she enjoyed reading, cross stitch, and participating in GHS Class of ‘68 reunions and breakfasts as well as Lakeview Retirees breakfasts. She also enjoyed visiting greenhouses and attending Amish auctions. Judy was able to care for her grandchildren, and she loved spending time with them.

On August 26, 1972, Judy married Darrell Kougher; he passed away August 13, 2025. Judy had previously traveled with her husband out West and to visit a dear friend in North Carolina.

She is survived by her daughters, Abby Kougher and her fiancé Erick Wong of Pittsburgh and Kelli (Kougher) and her husband Jeff Chaffee of Hermitage; her grandchildren, Sean and Annalise Chaffee; her brother, Daniel (Susan) Cook and his children, Ben and Sarah; and several cousins.

In addition to her husband, Judy was preceded in death by her parents.

Recently, Judy said, “Time goes on, but people leave their things behind.” The legacy Judy will leave behind is her kindness to those she knew.

Services:

Per Judy’s wishes, Cremation was chosen, and no services will be held.
