Josephine M. "Josey" McCauley

Josephine M. “Josey” McCauley, age 94, of Jamestown passed away Wednesday morning, May 20, 2026 in St. Paul’s Senior Living Community.

She was born in Franklin on November 18, 1931 to Lee A. and Geraldine (Plowman) Brown. Josey graduated as Salutatorian from Franklin High School. She completed her B. S. in Education at Edinboro State College. Josey was employed for 20 years as a teacher at Jamestown Elementary School, as principal at Mifflinburg (PA) Elementary school, and then retired as a principal in the Wattsburg School District following four years of employment.

She was a member of North Shenango Presbyterian Church, Espyville where she taught Sunday School. Josey also was a member of the Jamestown Study Class, Wings to Fly, and had served as Past President of the PA State Education Association (PSEA). She enjoyed crafts, tole painting, and poetry.

On November 13, 1949, Josey married Thomas L. McCauley; he passed away April 8, 2013.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas L. McCauley, Jr. of Cleveland, OH and David M. McCauley and his wife Donna of Espyville; three daughters: Valerie McCauley of Lexington, SC, Susan R. VanZanten of Sharpsville, and Wendy Salcedo and her husband, Robert, of Hermitage; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Josey was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Dr. Henry VanZanten.

Services:

A Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, 5/28/26, in LOUTZENHISER-RANDALL FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 416 Liberty St., Jamestown with Greg Vanderveen, Lay Pastor of North Shenango Presbyterian Church, officiating. Family and friends will be received in the Funeral Home on Thursday, 5/28/26, from 4:00 PM until time of Service. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to North Shenango Presbyterian Church, 10377 Church Rd. Espyville, PA 16424.
