Aug 28, 1948 — May 25, 2026

The Villages, FL

It is with deep sadness that the family of Joseph Patrick Walton, 77, of The Villages, FL (formerly of Greenville, PA) announces his passing. Born on August 28, 1948, Joe lived a life centered on faith, family, community, and friendship.

Joe shared more than 55 years of marriage with his wife, Kathy Murtaugh Walton. Together, they built a life grounded in love, faith, family, and unwavering partnership.

Joe was the beloved son of the late Joseph Maurice Walton and Marguerite Josephine (Monroe) Walton, and the proud oldest sibling in a large Irish Catholic family. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Jerry (Patti Fine) Walton, Mike (Barb) Walton, Mary (John) McKenna, Bobby (Anne) Walton, Suzanne (Bill) Prunka, Megan (Kim) Walton, and Nancy (Jim) Hyland, all of whom shared a lifelong bond rooted in family tradition, laughter, loyalty, and love.

Above all else, Joe was a devoted family man. He was the proud father of four children: Joseph Daniel (Wendy) Walton, Colleen (Brian) Hroncich, Katie Walton, and Brian Patrick Walton. He was a loving grandfather to Molly, Danny, Maggie, Sean, Erin, and Maura, and cherished his newest role as great-grandfather to Joseph Patrick and William Joseph. Joe was a loving uncle to 21 nieces and nephews.

Joe was a member of the inaugural graduating class of Kennedy Christian HS in 1966. After graduating from Wheeling College in 1970, he enlisted in the US Navy.

For 40 years, Joe built a distinguished career as an innovator, leader and mentor at Jamestown Coating Technologies, working in various capacities and as CEO from 2002 until 2011. His intellect and integrity earned the respect and admiration of his contemporaries in the Paint & Coatings industry. As the President of the Federation for the Societies of Coatings Technology in 1995-96, Joe was an architect of the eventual merger with the National Paint & Coatings Association.

Joe also carried a strong sense of civic duty and community pride. He served on many civic, non-profit and corporation boards of directors, including Greenville Borough Council, Knights of Columbus, Elks, American Legion, UMPC Horizon, Thiel College, National Paint & Coatings Association, FNB, and Jamestown Coatings. In 1986, as Mayor, Joe presided over Greenville’s 150th anniversary celebration.

In The Villages Joe kept up an active schedule, serving as Entertainment Director of the Irish American Club, helping found the Fishbowl Society of Pennecamp, and golfing regularly with friends and family. Joe was also a member of the Celtic Club and the Three Rivers Club.

Joe treasured being part of a large Irish Catholic family and carried that identity proudly throughout his life. He loved gathering with family and friends, raising a glass, telling stories, sharing meals, and celebrating life together. He especially enjoyed traveling, with Ireland holding a special place in his heart.

Joe will be remembered for his leadership, generosity, humor, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on through his family, his community, and the countless lives he touched over the years.
