James G. Robertson, age 92, of Conneaut Lake Rd., Sugar Grove Twp., Greenville passed away Saturday morning, June 21, 2025, in St. Paul’s Senior Living Community.
He was born in Conneaut Lake on September 7, 1932 to Louis G. and Grace (Helbig) Robertson. Jim was a 1950 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School and served during the Korean War with the U.S. Army Security Agency where he taught Morse Code. He earned his B. S. in Civil Engineering from Penn State University in 1959 and became a Registered Professional Engineer and Surveyor in 1965. Jim retired from the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad as Manager of Engineering Design in 1986 following 26 years of employment. He also worked as a part-time surveyor for over 40 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Greenville where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Usher, and Communion Steward for over 30 years. Jim was a 32nd Degree member of Free & Accepted Masons Eureka Lodge #290, having served two terms as Master of Lodge in 1973 and 1995, and was a member of the New Castle Consistory and past member of Zem Zem Shrine, Erie. He served on the Greenville School Board and Mercer County Vo-Tech Board for six years and was Cub Scout Master and Troop Leader for Pack #92. Jim was an avid hunter and camper who had visited 48 States and traveled to Israel and Greece. He enjoyed sewing, cruising, and square dancing with his wife since 1969. In his younger years, Jim helped his father build the docks around Conneaut Lake and built his own home in Greenville. He spent many winters in New Port Ritchey, FL and loved his dog, “Buffy.”
On March 21, 1953, Jim married the former Patricia A. Munson; she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Sherry Spargo of Naples, FL, Lisa Robertson of Greenville, and Heidi Behrmann of GA; a son, Adam J. Robertson of Greenville. Jim also is survived by two sisters, Shirley and Marian; eight grandchildren: Emily, Chelsey, Mary, Benjamin, Noah, Matthew, Rachel, and Morgan; and four great-grandchildren: Henry, Cecily, Andrew, and Lilly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher Robertson; an infant sister, Grace; and five sisters: Carolyn, Virginia, Rosanne, Violet, and Janet.
Services:
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, 6/27/25, in First United Methodist Church, 73 Clinton St., Greenville, with Rev. Earl Butterfield, Pastor of the Church, officiating. Military Honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the service by Greenville VFW Post #3374 Honor Guard. Family and friends will be received in the Church on Friday, 6/27/25, from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial will be in Shenango Valley Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 73 Clinton St. Greenville, PA 16125.
