Hugh D. Clark

August 7, 1943 — October 16, 2025

Hartstown, PA

Hugh Douglas Clark, 82, of Hartstown, PA passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, at home after an extended journey with heart failure. As a true Marine, he persevered and seized each day.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Hugh cherished time with those he loved most. He believed that life’s greatest joy was found in simple moments—sharing stories, laughter, and adventures with family and friends.

In healthier days, Hugh could often be found grilling on his Big Green Egg, traveling, casting a fishing line, paddling his kayak along quiet waters, or enjoying a round of golf. His passion for the natural world extended beyond recreation; he dedicated much of his life in northwestern Pennsylvania to preserving and enhancing it for others to enjoy. As a Board member of the Shenango River Watchers, Hugh wrote grants that supported the opening of the Shenango River water trail. Most recently, he served on the Board of Mercer County Trails Association writing grants to support the development of bike trails in the area. Hugh has left a lasting legacy of community recreation and conservation, as recognized by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers when they awarded him the National Volunteer Award in 2015.

Hugh was a proud member of the Jamestown Lion’s club, who supported many of his environmental initiatives. One of his most treasured projects was the Monarch Butterfly initiative, through which he raised milkweed with the help of Ernst Seed Company and distributed the plants for community members to grow—helping nurture and protect the monarch population for generations to come. His deep respect for the environment and tireless commitment to stewardship reflected both his values and his generous spirit.

Hugh will be remembered for his warmth, his leadership, and his unwavering belief in the power of community. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Tamara Aronson Clark; his daughter, Sarah Clark; his grandson, Ashton Riley; his brother, Gregory Clark and wife, Donna; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, Hugh William and Loretta (Cison) Clark; his son, Hugh Duncan Clark.
