George P. Grexa, age 73, of Clinton St., Greenville, passed away Friday evening, April 24, 2026, in the ER of UPMC Horizon, Greenville.
He was born in Greenville on April 22, 1953 to George and Evelyn (Lehere) Grexa. George was a 1971 graduate of Greenville High School and received a music degree from North Texas State University. He had been the co-owner/operator of George’s Bootery in Greenville for 40 years and also had owned Shoe Vac for a short time. George had a lifelong love of music and was an accomplished drummer, playing in a number of local bands and producing several records. In April of 2006, he secured the rights to use the Acoustic name brand. With the help of the original designer and a handful of dedicated close friends, George launched G. P. G. Co. and brought back the legendary Acoustic 360 Bass Amplifier. By October of 2011, George’s amp was starting to be played around the world, notably by such famous bass players as Flea from The Red-Hot Chili Peppers and Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. George’s Acoustic 360 hit the very prestigious Bass Player Magazine twice, making the front cover in May 2013. In 2012, the Acoustic 360 won Bass Gear Magazine’s Best of Show Award at the NAMM show in Nashville, TN.
George was of the Catholic Faith. As a member of the former Downtown Greenville Business Owners Association, he was instrumental in the creation of Lakeland Days and the annual Greenville fireworks display.
George is survived by his longtime companion of over 30 years Kathryn A. Parker and her daughter Kyndel Miller and fiancé Tim Harakal; Kyndel’s children Piper, Parker, Payden, Preslee, Skylar, Katherine, and Emmi; a daughter, Tiffany (David) Lewis; and three grandchildren: Noah, Audrey, and Harry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Aaron Grexa; his sister, Patricia Calvin; and his brother-in-law, Ralph Calvin.
