Frederick L. “Fred” Junk, age 83, of Donation Rd. Hempfield Twp. Greenville, passed away Friday morning, July 18, 2025, in his residence.
He was born in Greenville, on October 22, 1941 to Lewis W. and Florence (Davis) Junk. Fred attended St. Michael Schools and was a 1959 graduate of Greenville High School. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1959-1963 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Fred was employed for over 20 years at the former R. D. Werner Co. and previously had been employed at Westinghouse Electric and Greenville Steel Car.
Fred enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and have fun. He also had numerous interests throughout the years including snowmobiling, camping, hunting, drag racing in his younger years, and spending time at his camp in the mountains. He also enjoyed boating and water skiing and had taught many of his children’s friends how to water ski over the years. Following retirement, he loved tinkering with anything and everything.
On March 8, 1962, he married the former Betty K. Bothun at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; she survives.
In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by two sons, Darryl (Carol) Junk, of Greenville and David (Lana) Junk of Layton, UT; a daughter Cathryn “Cathy” (Ken) Anderson of Greenville; five grandchildren: Chad (Cara) Anderson, Ryan (Kayla) Junk, Brittany Junk, Erika (Gavin) Cregger, and Emily Junk; seven great-grandchildren, Mason, Milo, Nolan, Remy, Piper, Kenna, and Gatlin; a brother, Lewis R. (Bunny) Junk of Deland, FL; three brothers-in-law: Gary (Carole) Bothun, James (Brenda) Bothun, and Carl Fattman; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Florence Smart and her husband Alverton; his father Lewis Junk and his wife June; his only sister Nancy Marie Junk; granddaughter Chelsea Leigh Anderson; mother and father-in-law: Lois and Carl Guerrini; father-in-law Arden Bothun; three sisters-in-law: Patty Fattman, Jackie Lewis, and Sharon Northcott; and a nephew Tye Bothun.
Services:
A Private Memorial Service will be held in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville with Rev. Brenda Martin, Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Greenville VFW Post #3374 Honor Guard will render Military Honors at the conclusion of the service. Inurnment will be in Millbank Cemetery, Fredonia, PA. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
