Elton R. Barnett, age 75, of Hamburg Rd., Hempfield Twp., Greenville passed away Friday evening, October 24, 2025, in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, OH due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born in Greenville on February 23, 1950 to Willis R. and Beatrice N. (Fritz) Barnett. Elton was a 1968 graduate of Greenville High School. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy and graduated from Grove City College in 1972 with a degree in Business. Elton served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves 298th Transportation Co., Franklin, PA, from 1968 – 1982. After growing up as part of the family business, he retired in 2015 as the owner/operator of Barnett’s Garage Jeep Sales & Service, where he proudly knew all of his customers by name and by car.
Elton was of the Lutheran Faith. He loved motorcycles (especially Indians) and enjoyed snow skiing for many years. Elton especially loved spending time with his beloved dog, “Lady.”
On September 24, 1977, he married the former Meryl R. Bailing; she survives.
In addition to his wife, Elton is survived by a son, Brent R. Barnett of West Rutland, VT; two sisters, Darlene Ferguson of Greenville and Anita (Paul) Gallo of Darien, CT; a brother, James Barnett of Greenville; and a sister-in-law, Linda Barnett of Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Rev. Emory Barnett; and a brother-in-law, John Ferguson.
Services:
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, 10/30/25, in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville with Rev. Keith Troyer, Pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Greenville, officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by Greenville American Legion Post #140 Honor Guard at the conclusion of the service. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, 10/29/25, in the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Delaware Twp. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Contributions be made to a Veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice.
