Edward M. Caldwell, II, age 78, formerly of Jamestown, passed away September 3, 2025 in Orchard Manor, Grove City following complications from recent surgery. He was born in Greenville, PA on September 20, 1946 to Edward M. and Evelyn E. (Owen) Caldwell. As an infant he contracted the German Measles that affected his hearing and later was determined the cause of his loss of hearing and speech. Although he attended the Western PA School for the Deaf, he ultimately received his formal education through the Greenville School District until the age of 21. 

Ed distinguished himself for over 40 years as a client at the Arc of Mercer County. In 2002 he received the Nettie Mann Achievement Award from Pennsylvania Industries for the Blind and Handicapped in recognition of his exceptional traits and personal endeavors which personified the concept of PIBH. This award was presented to him in Harrisburg by actor Danny Glover. He benefited greatly as well through the Arc with participation in the Family Living Program. 

For the past 2 ½ years Ed had been a resident at Orchard Manor where he was loved beyond measure and loved and considered all of the residents his extended family. Thanks to his “wheels,” he could never be found in his room as he participated in any and all activities offered. 

Ed is survived by sisters Patricia Herrick of Greenville and Nancy (Charles) Herrick of Mercer. Additionally, he is survived by nephews and nieces, Brian (Sue) Herrick of Greenville, Brenda (Rick) Michael of Hermitage, Brad (Julie) Herrick of Akron, Ohio, Todd (Amanda) Herrick of Henderson, NV, and Rebecca (Charles) Durr of Sharon, PA. Also surviving are great-nephews and nieces, Crystal (James) Sowers of Greenville, PA, Stephen Herrick of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Jillian Herrick of Brookfield, Ohio, Jase Herrick of Greenville, PA, , Emily (Brandon) Scarr of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Owen Herrick of Akron, Ohio, Addison Herrick of Akron, Ohio, Nicole Rossi of Ellwood City, PA, Zachary Harding of Cortland, Ohio, Joseph Durr of Ambridge, PA, Marissa Harding of Sharon, PA ,and Megan Harding of Sharon, PA. Great-great nephews include Deacon and Blake Sowers of Greenville, PA. 

Ed dearly loved spending time with his family, enjoying beach and Las Vegas vacations, family weddings, doing puzzles, and attending Greenville High School football games and Browns games as well. The nephews and nieces encouraged him in any and all outdoor sports activities even as he grew older. He attended Hillside Presbyterian Church and enjoyed being a part of various activities. 

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Gerald Herrick.

Services:

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, 9/9/25, in Loutzenhiser-Randall Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 416 Liberty St. Jamestown, with Rev. Sean Hall, Pastor of Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville, officiating. Family and friends will be received in the Funeral Home on Monday, 9/8/25, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday, 9/9/25, from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be directed to The Arc of Mercer County, 850 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, PA 16148 or Hillside Presbyterian Church at 2 N. High Street, Greenville, PA 16125.
