Dona J. Christy Robinson, 91, died at her home in St. Paul’s retirement community on August 29, 2023. She was born in Girard, Ohio to Ray Christy and Kathryne Miller Christy Johnson. Dona grew up in Greenville, PA, where she was a member of the 1950 class of Penn High School, and attended the Buhl Hospital School of Nursing in Sharon, PA.
In 1951, Dona married John Robert (Bob) Robinson of Mercer, PA. When Bob completed his military service, they relocated to California, where they enjoyed 58 years of marriage until his death in 2010. Throughout Dona’s life, she had a great zest for living, and was described as the life of the party. She found delight in dancing, music, and movies, especially the oldies! Dona loved her garden, taking pride in her blooming cacti and roses. While living on her ranch in California, she had to keep her llamas out of the garden! She loved Mexican food, and was known to whip up a taco dinner whenever anyone asked.
She loved traveling in her camper with Bob to visit family members in North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, and Louisiana. Dona loved to read novels, and when her vision declined, she enjoyed listening to Books on Tape.
In 2012, Dona returned to Greenville PA. While residing at St. Paul’s, she served on the Colony Council, on various committees in the Heritage Homes, and volunteered in the Bistro and in the Without Walls program. She looked forward to field trips, especially if they included lunch at a new restaurant. Dona treasured the friends she made at St. Paul’s. Her best buddy was Janet Kirk, and they were fondly referred to as “Trouble 1 and Trouble 2”. Her sense of humor was well-known.
Dona was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; two brothers (Richard P. and Harry W. Johnson), and two sisters (Linda L. and Judee Johnson). She is survived by 3 children: Launice, Karla, and John Robinson; and by 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is survived by 6 siblings, including Marge Heppner and Shirley Binkley, recently of Greenville.
Cremation was chosen and there will be no services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.
Mom left this poem by Laura Ingalls Wilder to guide us when she was gone. Please enjoy your memories of her.
"Remember me with smiles and laughter
For that is the way I will remember you all.
If you can only remember me with tears,
Then don’t remember me at all."
