Corky Smith, age 81, of Vernon Rd., W. Salem Twp., Greenville, passed away peacefully in his residence with his family at his side on Thursday morning, January 15, 2026.
He was born in Meadville on May 9, 1944 to Howard E. and Irene (McGinnis) Smith and grew up starting at the age of 7 in St. Paul’s Orphanage. Corky graduated from Greenville High School in 1963. He retired from Anderson Coach & Travel in 2009 following 30 years of employment and previously had been employed as a Carman with the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad from 1965 – 1990. Following his retirement, Corky was employed as a van driver for American Scholar Group for nine years.
He was a member of Crossroads Christian Fellowship. Corky enjoyed hunting, eating out at different restaurants, and watching professional wrestling and John Wayne movies.
On January 17, 1965, he married the former Alice L. Campbell; she survives.
In addition to his wife, Corky is survived by a daughter, Wendi (Chris) Murphy of New Middletown, OH; two sons, Brian Smith of Greenville and Todd Smith of Selma, NC; six grandchildren: Matt Smith, Steven (Kayla) Smith, Amy Smith, Virginia Smith, Nicholas (Racheal) Murphy, and Tyler Murphy; and three great grandchildren: Brixton Murphy, Emma Murphy, and Eli Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Smith; his father-in-law, Garland Campbell, Sr.; and his mother-in-law, Jennie Campbell.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care of Corky.
Services:
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, 1/19/26 in Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 366-368 S. Main St. Greenville, with Bishop Daniel Miller officiating. Family and friends will be received in the Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Sunday, 1/18/26. Burial will be in Rock Ridge Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Akron Children’s Hospital, 214 W. Bowery St. Akron, OH 44308.
