On Friday, January 23, 2026 surrounded by her loving family, Cherie Adair (Linhart) Hodgson of Jamestown, age 68, ended her long, grueling battle with kidney disease and found the blessings of eternal comfort, peace, and rest. She will always be caringly remembered for her quick wit and joking one-liners that, in good times and bad, brought joy, ease, and laughter to everyone around her.
Cherie was born in Butler, PA on February 21, 1957 to Charles Albert and Carolyn (Brown) Linhart (both deceased), joining sisters Cynthia Ann and Caren Beth, both of Jamestown. She moved in the early 1960s with her family, known as the five Cs, to NJ where she spent her childhood and youth. Virtually every summer was spent in NJ and NYC discovery with aunts, cousins, and visitors from PA , including multiple trips to the Statue of Liberty, the Museum of Natural History, the Jersey shore, the 1964 World’s Fair, and many other historic and cultural places. In 1975, she graduated from Bridgewater-Raritan High School West, NJ.
When her parents retired to Jamestown, Cherie joined them for a while, but she eventually returned to her NJ comforts where she met and married Richard (Rick) Hodgson in September, 1977. Residing in Raritan, NJ they were soon united with Rick’s two-year old son Richard Charles (Ricky, November 27, 1975). This young family was then joined by daughter Caroline Marie (June 12, 1978 – May 14, 2017). They remained in Raritan for decades, during which time Cherie developed her creativity in the delicatessen industry. Her unique sandwich and condiment combinations were the rage of central Jersey until a work injury for Rick brought them back to Jamestown.
During this time Cherie also discovered her incredible baking prowess. Affectionately and widely known as the Pie Lady of Jamestown, Cherie’s pies were award winning and brought top dollar at the Jamestown Fair auctions. Her crusts were to die for! Her gifted Christmas and wedding cookie trays are, and will remain, legendary to and missed by many. She and Rick joined forces in the garden as well; Rick, the gardener, and Cherie, the canner. Again, awards and gifts to friends and family were forthcoming. Finally for years Cherie used her culinary skills in dedicated service to her Rock of Grace Family Ministries community until her deepening illness sadly became a barrier.
Cherie is survived by her devoted, caring husband of 47 years Rick of Jamestown, son Ricky (Ana) of Colorado, and six grandchildren who were her life passion: Ricky’s daughter Airyana of Colorado and Caroline’s Blanchard children—Ivy of Florida, Justine of New Jersey, and Kayla, Joseph, and Alexander of Jamestown. Sisters Cynthia and Caren also survive, as well as niece Danya Gault (Cristen) and grandnephews Archer and Troy Gault, all of Jamestown, and grandniece Alexis Corson (Carson) of Ohio.
