Carmel J. Longiotti, age 92, of N. Race St., Greenville, passed away Friday morning, March 27, 2026.
She was born in Sharon on May 7, 1933 to James and Lucy (Fortine) Bencivengo. Carmel graduated from Farrell High School in 1951. She was a lifelong homemaker following her marriage and previously had been employed at the Shenango Valley Credit Bureau from 1952 -1956.
Carmel was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church. She served as treasurer of the Greenville Little League Auxiliary from 1967 – 1972 and worked the election poll at the Greenville American Legion for over 20 years. Carmel traveled to Europe with her husband and son in 2001 and visited Rome, The Vatican, and Tuscany Valley in Italy and then Paris, France where they attended Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral. She enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble, and taking trips to Las Vegas.
On June 30, 1956, Carmel married Pete Longiotti; he survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Karen Giffin of Hagerstown, MD; two sons, Peter J. (Sharleen) Longiotti of Lake Orion, MI and Charles A. (Elena) Longiotti of Chicago, IL; a sister, Rosalie Shed of Akron, OH; four grandchildren: Craig (Tiffany) Longiotti, Elysse Longiotti (Ryan Johnson), Kyle Longiotti, and Megan Marie Giffin; and one great-grandchild, Reese Johnson.
Carmel was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Lanciotti; five brothers: Anthony, Joseph, Fred, Raymond, and James Bencivengo; and a son-in-law, John Giffin.
Services:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, 4/8/26, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville with Fr. Thomas N. Trocchio, Pastor of the Church, as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received in the Gathering Space of the Church on 4/8/26 from 11:00 AM until time of Mass. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Cemetery, 85 N. High St. Greenville, PA 16125 or the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
