Bernard J. “Ben” Barbarossa, age 92, of N. Third St., W. Salem Twp., Greenville, passed away Thursday morning, March 12, 2026, in St. Paul’s Senior Living Community.
He was born in Greenville on August 4, 1933 to Vincent James and Italia “Edith” (Scialo) Barbarossa. Ben graduated from St. Michael’s High School in 1951 and attended Sharon Business School. He served in the United States Marine Corps. from 1953 – 1956. Ben retired from PPG Industries in 1993 following over 25 years of employment in Quality Control and previously had been employed at Westinghouse Electric Corp. and Blazon Inc.
He was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church. Ben enjoyed watching The Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and religious shows; sitting outside; visiting casinos with his wife; attending the Rutter’s Garage coffee group, and especially, spending time with his family.
On June 22, 1957, he married the former Bonnie Mowery; she survives.
In addition to his wife, Ben is survived by four children: Gwen (Mark) Eckard of Hubbard, OH and Brian “BJ” Barbarossa, Carol (Darryl) Junk, and Kevin Barbarossa, all of Greenville; four grandchildren: Mark Eckard, Sean (Crisstina) Eckard, Ryan (Kayla) Junk, and Brittany Junk; six great-grandchildren: Mark, Brody, Gabriella, Cacey, Gatlin, and Bowen; and his godchild, Daniel Mowery.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Teresa Rutter, Lena Snodgrass, and Florence Barbarossa.
Ben’s family wishes to thank St. Paul’s, Gentiva Hospice, and VNA Alliance for their compassionate care.
Services:
A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas N. Trocchio, Pastor of the Church, as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 85 N. High St. Greenville, PA 16125 or The American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
